Committed Craftsmanship

We are a group of craftsmen committed to the art of custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and furniture building. Since 1997 we have worked with Charleston’s finest architects, designers, and contractors who possess expertise in a variety of styles ranging from historic to neo-traditional to modern contemporary. Our success stems from a collective respect for the client’s vision, the materials we use, and the spaces we help create. We employ an open approach to the design process and maintain the flexibility to adjust for the smallest detail. Our construction methods blend traditional joinery with modern equipment to produce quality work on a production level. All of our finishes are custom matched or created from scratch to meet our client’s specifications. Installation is offered for all works from the front door to the crown moulding and everything in between. Our extensive and diverse experience makes us the best choice whether your project is a historic renovation, a custom new home, or a high end commercial project.

S.L. Horning Woodworks is a custom wood shop creating fine cabinetry, furniture, and millwork for residential and commercial spaces. We are located inside the James Island Business Park, 15 minutes from downtown Charleston. Our spacious 15,000 square foot facility houses the office, lumber storage, working shop floor, finish booth, and drying area. We have been in business for over a decade and have built a reputation for being precise, timely, and dedicated to customer service.

Our participation in many historic renovations has honed our skills for the demanding and sensitive nature of this work. For these projects we have matched custom mouldings, paneled shutters, french and paneled doors, mantles, custom cabinetry, and original furniture. Our extensive experience makes us a valuable resource, whether it’s a complete historic renovation or a simple change to personalize the space.

Many new custom projects require the ability to provide for complete cabinet and millwork packages. Our facility is equipped to handle the most demanding of these projects, usually delivered ahead of schedule.

We enjoy bringing to life the designs of many talented architects and designers, and follow their plans with precise attention to detail. In addition, we have created many of our own designs which are hand drawn, original, and complete.

We welcome the opportunity to work with other talented artisans. We have done several collaborative projects with other local craftsmen, whose contributions were of their own creation and design. I would like to acknowledge Bob Hines Studios and R2 for all mirrored and glass works, Sean Ahern of Aherns Anvil for amazing iron and metal work, and Jay Rice of 2 am Iron Works for his contributions to several staircases.
